Graduate Assistantships
Graduate assistants at the University of Montevallo are students first and employees second. They have as their primary focus advanced study and ultimately the completion of a graduate degree. Therefore, the services they provide as graduate assistants should complement professional development in their chosen fields of study.
The Graduate Assistant (GA) will be paid $12.00/hr with a typical workload of up to 10 hours per week during the 1st Fall semester of the program. Renewal for the following semester (1st year Spring) is dependent on the quality of performance during the Fall semester and maintenance of a 3.0 GPA. The GA must maintain documentation of work with individual faculty/staff members on a weekly basis. The GA will receive a paycheck bi-weekly from the University and will need to complete a weekly timesheet.
Position notification will be awarded in the admissions offer or during orientation if all positions have not been filled.
Requirements
- First-year Graduate student in the 2-year M.S. SLP Program
- Maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0
- Have these qualities: motivated self-starter, punctual, organized, good telecommunication skills (e.g., calling clients on the phone)
- Maintain documentation of work with individual faculty/staff members.

McNair Scholar Program– Applications accepted year-round
The Ronald E. McNair Post-Baccalaureate Achievement Program, funded by the U.S. Department of Education, is designed to provide effective preparation for doctoral study for low-income, first-generation, and underrepresented undergraduate students. Selection as a McNair Scholar is the result of a competitive process to participate in a program that prepares them for success in graduate school. The scholarship is awarded annually to graduate students who successfully participated in the McNair Scholars Program and are in good academic standing. Scholarship awards may be renewed annually for a maximum of 2 years.
Graduate Student Research/Conference Funding
Funding is set aside each year for graduate students to conduct research or present work at academic conferences. Requests for awards should be approved by your faculty advisor, endorsed by the department chair, and delivered to the Office of Graduate Admissions and Records. The application should include a proposed projected budget of expenses, information about department cost sharing, and specific travel details (if travel is involved).
